Polarising dial
Polarising dial for latitude 51° 28' North. The dial is set on a varnished wooden base with an inclined black glass reflector and a removable clear glass semicircle mounted with 15 sections of selenite placed radially from the centre and labelled (in reverse) with hours of the day.
An instrument of this type was exhibited by Charles Wheatstone at the 1848 meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. This dial was possibly made by William H. Darker of Lambeth.
