Student at a Table by Candlelight
A figure seated by a table, identified as a student, reading a book raised on a stand under the light of a single candle. His left hand is raised to shade the light from his face. A curtain can be seen on the right of the image.
This etching (with surface tone) is probably a late 18th- or 19th-century copy of Rembrandt’s 1654 etching ‘Student at a Table by Candlelight’. Small traces of the platemark can be seen at the upper corners.
Verso inscribed ‘Probably Gabb Coll.’
