The house flag of Manchester Liners Ltd, Manchester. A white flag with a red oval disc in the centre bearing the white letters 'M L'. The flag is made of a wool and synthetic fibre bunting. It has a cotton hoist and is machine sewn. A rope and toggle is attached.

Manchester Liners started running passenger and freight services between Manchester and Canada in 1898 following the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894. Furness Withy was the largest shareholder and the remaining capital was held by local interests. The company also ran services to other American destinations and started the first British service to the Canadian Great Lakes in 1952. In the 1960’s it acquired container ships and terminals at Manchester and Montreal. Following the success of this venture the company diversified into haulage and warehouse activities, engineering and ship repairs. In 1970 the company became a subsidiary of Furness Withy & Co. The parent company was taken over by C.Y Tung, Hong Kong in 1980 and ceased trading as a separate entity in 1988. Manchester liner ships had dark red funnels with a black top and black band, their hulls were black with a red boot topping.
