House flag, North Yorkshire Shipping Co. Ltd

The house flag of the North Yorkshire Shipping Co. Ltd, London. A green flag with a white rose in the centre. The flag is made of a wool and synthetic fibre bunting. It has a cotton hoist and is machine sewn. The design is printed. A rope and toggle is attached.

The North Yorkshire Shipping Company was created in 1954 under the management of the Bolton Steam Shipping Company in London, which had been in operation since 1885. Four ships were ordered: the Redcar, Ribblehead and Ripon, all built in 1956, and the Rievaulx, built in 1958. All were named after towns in North Yorkshire. The ships sailed from multiple European ports to Africa and other destinations, carrying iron ore back with them. It appears that the last of the four ships was sold in 1973, followed by the sale of the Bolton Steam Shipping Company in 1982 to Nosira Shipping.
