Barrel-topped chest

Barrel-topped chest. An oak, two part chest with 'barrel' top and fomerly a secretaire flap. The lower part contains five drawers with large brass drop handles, there are currently two drawers in the top section (another layer of drawers missing) and there are cleats for rope carrying handles at the ends. The front and top are oak, the sides pieced oak and the carcass deal. On a brass plate inside: HMS ROYAL GEORGE IST JUNE 1794'. Said to have belonged to Admiral Sir Alexander Hood (1726-1814) when he commanded this vessel at the Glorious First of June.
