Sea chest

Sea chest covered with a black leather covering attached with domed upholstery nails. It belonged to Captain Henry Manning of Belfast (1827-1910), master of the cable ship 'Kangaroo'. The lid is closed by two hasps for padlocks, the corners are reinforced by metal plates, as are the ends of the lid. The nails form an oval on the lid and a decorative swag on the front. There are iron drop handles at the ends of the chest.
