Sea chest
Seaman's chest belonging to 4th Officer Henry Saunders. Stencilled on the lid: 'Effects of the late H. Saunders 4th Officer, S.S. Surat'. The chest had straight sides and is of dovetailed construction with extended and rounded bottom boards. The handles are in the form of cleats and the chest has a hinged lid with a brass lock plate.
