Work box

Marquetry work box inlaid with Australian and New Zealand woods. The lid has an oval eight-pointed star/ compass rose at centre with border of chevrons, all in inlaid woods. Inside the lid the box has another star in a diamond surround and inlaid border. There is a fitted tray with a central purple-covered pin cushion and eleven lidded compartments with inlaid dot designs at the corners. Made by the ship's carpenter of HMS 'Corinth' for the wife of the master - Captain William Thomas Littler.
