Dispatch box
Brown leather dispatch box which came with the papers of Lieutenant John George Haggard (1850-1908). Also contained inside, a silk-lined leather document slip and a tin dispatch container of oval section. The box is rectangluar with a hinged lid, lock and key and brass handles on the ends. Inside is a tray divided into seven compartments. The whole is japanned black, with a yellow band on the lid. The tin case fits exactly into a leather -covered composition outer case, with a let down flap at the front and a leather strap to secure. It is lined with wool fabric. Luggage labels stuck to the exterior are inscribed as follows: 'P & O Cabin & Berth No', 'A mettre dans la Cabine', 'Gd Hotel de Geneve Marsaille', 'London & South Western Ry'.
