Chair
One of a pair of stained beechwood elbow chairs with rush seats and turned spindle back rails and turned legs. The other being AAA3460. These chairs came from Merton Place, the home that Emma Hamilton chose and Horatio Nelson purchased for his own occupation and that of the Hamiltons until Sir William's death in 1803, after which Emma, Nelson and their illegitimate daughter, Horatia, lived there. Nelson left the house to Emma but in April 1808, to relieve some of her rapidly mounting debts, it was decided that Merton and its contents should be sold.
