Sideboard

Spanish mahogany ship's sideboard form HMS 'Sanspareil' 1887, with brass galleries. Base section comprises a central two-doored cupboard with a shelf on each side of the central division and two single cupboards at each end, each with similar panelled doors which slide out completely. The left cupboard encloses three drawers with flush brass handles, and the right one two drawers, the lower one deep. There are four vertical carved supports. Above the cupboards are drawers; a long central one divided into compartments and originally baize-lined, the left drawer with four compartments and the right with none, all originally baize-lined, and the drawer fronts with carved diamond shaped lozenges. The base has a brass rail on the front and sides supported on nine short stanchions. The upper back section, which is removable, has a shelf with four scroll bracket supports and a pierced brass gallery. There is a central carved medallion bearing the monogram 'SP' within a laurel wreath, surrounded by a scallop and with two wooden finials.
