Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland
A view of the starboard side at upper deck level just aft of the funnels, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The shield of the 6 inch gun on the forecastle deck has been heavily damaged by splinters caused by a 12 inch shell hit inboard of the mounting. See N16489 for another view of this area. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth.
