Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland
A close view of the starboard side of 'X' turret, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The mark on the turret armour was caused by the impact of a 5.9 inch shell which failed to penetrate but destroyed the ladder bolted to the turret's exterior. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth.
