Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland
A close view of the aft end of the shelter deck, photographed from upper deck level, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The holes were caused by splinters from a 12 inch shell which penetrated the thin plating and burst against the armoured communication tube to the torpedo control tower. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth. See N16496 for a view of this area from the port side.
