Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland
A close view of the port side of the hull at roughly main deck level, just forward of the mainmast, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The mark on the hull plating was made by a 5.9 inch shell which failed to penetrate the armour. This photograph was taken in No.1 Dry Dock at Rosyth. For another view of this hit see N16490.
