Shell damage suffered by HMS Warspite at Jutland
A close view of the aft end of the forward shelter deck, port side, showing damage suffered by HMS Warspite (1913) on 31 May 1916 during the Battle of Jutland. The damage to this plating was caused by a 12 inch shell which entered the opposite side of the ship and burst inside the shelter deck. Negative N16506 shows a different view of this area (more can be seen of the Carley float) and N16510 shows the original entry point of the shell.
