The Grand Fleet in Scapa Flow
A view of some of the battleships and armoured cruisers of the Grand Fleet in Scapa Flow. The only battleships that can be positively identified are HMS Barham (1914) in the centre, HMS Neptune (1909) (the leftmost of the centre group) and HMS Agincourt (1913) (furthest ship in the left-hand group). The other ships in the picture are members of the Bellerophon, St Vincent and Orion class battleships, and at least one Minotaur class armoured cruiser. This mix of vessels indicates the presence of the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th Battle Squadrons, and the 1st and/or 2nd Cruiser Squadron. A precise date is not possible as this grouping of ships occurred on many occasions during 1915 and early 1916.
