Light cruisers at sea
A view of three light cruisers taken from HMS Queen Elizabeth (1913). The four-funneled ship in the middle is HMS Blanche (1909). Slightly nearer the camera and on a reciprocal course to Blanche are two ships of the Arethusa class. The vessels cannot be identified with any certainty, but it is likely that they belong to the 1st Light Cruiser Squadron as the latter was the only Grand Fleet formation to comprise more than one of these ships. Blanche was attached independently to the 4th Battle Squadron, and her presence in this picture suggests that the latter Squadron was nearby at the time.
