Presentation of Medaille Militaire to Chief Petty Officer Barry
Conclusion of the ceremony for the presentation of the Medaille Militaire to Chief Petty Officer Barry. This photograph was taken from the aft end of the upper deck of HMS Queen Elizabeth (1913) looking forward. The barrels of 'Y' turret's guns (with tompions in place) have been elevated to clear the deck area while 'X' turret is trained on the port beam.
Chief Petty Officer Barry is standing to attention facing the camera while the senior officers march off to the right of the picture. Beyond them the ship's Royal Marines have formed a guard of honour and are at 'shoulder arms'. The Marines' rifles appear to be Lee-Metfords, and have Japanese Type 30 bayonets fixed.
To the left of the picture the superstructure of a Colossus class battleship can be seen, and the view to the right is heavily obscured by a stove pipe.
