A combined mahogany secretaire bookcase and desk which belonged to James Cook and his wife Elizabeth. Made of pine veneered with mahogany. It has cross banded edges with inlaid ebony and boxwood lines. The bookcase has glass doors and is supported on a base with three drawers. A fourth, false drawer above is hinged with brass quadrant supports and pulls down to form a desk. The writing surface is baize-covered and there are small drawers and pigeon holes behind.
