Royal coat of arms

Carved, painted and gilded British royal coat of arms of the pattern still current today. This dates from the accession of Queen Victoria in 1837 and this is probably an early Victorian example and certainly of 19th century date. The oval shield is surrounded by the garter of the order, inscribed: HONO SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE' and shamrock and thistles with a red and white rose below. A sword and baton are placed behind the lion and unicorn supporters. The motto: '[D]IEU ET MON DROIT' is on a ribbon which runs accross the base. There are metal reinforcements and a suspension hook on the reverse. The crown is HRA0094.
