Eight-day oak and mahogany cased giant longcase clock

An eight-day oak and mahogany cased giant longcase clock by James Powell, Worcester, circa 1790.

The weight-driven movement has rectangular brass plates united by four knopped pillars. The internal wheel work has four curved crossings and has an anchor escapement. The hour striking train employs a rack system and strikes on a bell.

The signed white painted circular dial measures twenty inches in diameter and has Arabic numerals with outer five minute markers.
The hood has a swan necked pediment over freestanding reeded columns. The trunk has recessed quarter columns flanking a rectangular door with an inlaid ogee arch which is centred by an inlaid floral cartouche. The panelled base has a circular moulding to the centre and rests on a mahogany veneered skirting.
