Seal. A gun metal bar with a rectangular seal at either end. On the sides of the bar: 'SOPHIA. Born 1837 AP. 20', 'SMITH'. The seal incorporated the family arms: Azure, a chevron engrailed between three lions passant guardant or. Crest: A leopard's head proper, gorged with a plain collar. Motto: 'FORWARD'.
