Ring
Gold ring set with a large bloodstone intaglio. The bloodstone is decorated with a portrait depicting Emma, Lady Hamilton (circa 1765-1815) as a bacchante. The ring belonged to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). See also JEW0022 for a seal impression taken from the intaglio. Impressions taken from this seal are found on letters from Nelson written during the early 1800s. Sir William Hamilton would have commissioned the intaglio, but appears to have given it to Nelson by this date.
