Mourning Ring

Gold mourning ring commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), which belonged to Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) the Arctic explorer. The bezel of the ring is made in one piece with the hoop and the whole is decorated with black enamel. The bezel is inscribed with the letters 'N' and 'B', with two coronets above, all this is surrounded by the inscription 'GLORIOUSLY FELL ON 21ST OCT 1805'. Inscribed around the hoop of the ring are the words 'IN . THE . ACTION . WITH . THE . COMBINED . FLEETS . OF . FRANCE . AND SPAIN'.
