Locket

Oval locket, contained within a glazed, gold alloy setting. The setting comes complete with a suspension ring. On the front of the locket is a miniature, painted on ivory, depicting a female figure representing 'Peace' holding a cornucopia and an olive branch. Stacked on the quayside at her feet are barrels and boxes, one of the boxes is marked 'TO FRANCE'. Departing ships are shown in the background. The miniature bears the inscription 'THEY SHALL PROSPER THAT LOVE THEE'. The back of the locket bears the inscription 'To James Clerk in remembrance of Trafalgar from his affectionate friend Mary Davis'.
