Polished steel balance with flat spiral steel balance spring. Pierced and engraved balance cock. Tompion style regulator on slide plate with silver regulating disc engraved 1-6. Engraved on potence plate with 'Wm Howard, London 12337'. Convex white enamel dial with Roman hour numerals and Arabic five minute numerals. Pierced and engraved gilt brass hands. Outer case covered with simulated tortoise-shell (probably underpainted horn) with silver edges and pinwork. Engraved on case back is the name 'Cuthbert Collingwood RN'. Fitted inside back with paper packing and a silk watch paper printed with the Lord's prayer in a spiral design. Inner silver case hallmarked 'London 1779-1780' with makers cameo 'E.L'(?). Crudely engraved on inner case back with the letters 'M S C'. Scratched inside with '18V01'. Scratched on both edge of inner and outer back with the letters 'VWW'. Pendant and plain stirrup bow.
