The watch movement, dial and inner case are of very low quality Swiss manufacture, which were offered for sale to the Dutch market circa 1780 and have been fitted into a later, English outer case. The watch is said to have been presented to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) by Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood (1750-1810), although this attribution is said to be dubious.
