Porcelain mug with dark blue rims decorated with gilding and gilt foliage. There is a grisaille painting of a naval engagement in an oval sepia panel on the front. On the base is inscribed ‘Capt Trollop’s Engagement’ and ‘Chamberlain’s Worcester’ painted in blue cursive script.
‘Glatton’ Captain Henry Trollope (1756-1839), encountered a squadron of eight French ships on 15 July 1796 in the North Sea and fought off her opponents with the loss of only two men wounded. This action protected a large British convoy.
