By Clarkson Stanfield or his half-brother William James Stanfield, scene-painter (1804–27), or both. Brown leather spine, marbled soft covers, coarse paper, flush cut (10 1/8 x 12 1/2 ins), 17 ff. Pencil, ink and brown wash sketches, inc. 4 stuck in of trees, sluices, bridges, tumbledown sheds, houses, fences and an inn. Inside front cover, two stuck in, one marked in ink 'c. Thames 1821', the other 'Near Waterloo Road 1822'. Others of 'Hackney', 'Mile en[d]', 'Near Waterloo Road 1822', 'Bridge at Stratford', clearly all written by the artist. On third folio in from back, upside down to direction of use, the name in pencil 'William Stanfield' by another hand. From the studio collection of Clarkson Stanfield RA, acquired 9.04 (Bagshawe Collection). [PvdM 5.06]
