Model of a large barrel
A carved and painted solid wooden model of a parallel-sided cask with a bung central in one side between the sets of four wicker or similar hoops, and the flat ends reinforced. Painted 'staining' round the bung suggests either wine or tar. This type of cask was also apparently used for buoys, or at least to model one in a Stanfield drawing; see PAD9132. From the studio collection of Clarkson Stanfield RA (Bagshawe Collection, acq. 9.04). [PvdM 5/06]
