The action was in fact on 26 February 1813 when Napier landed on the island of Ponza off the coast of Naples and caused the Governor of the island to surrender. It was because of this exploit that Napier assumed the name of Don Carlos de Ponza when, in 1833, he accepted command of the Portuguese fleet.
