Glove
A left hand mitten made of moose skin edged with bird quill. Collected by Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) on one of his two overland journeys to the Arctic Ocean in 1819-22 and 1825-27. The expedition's clothing was made at trading posts in the subarctic region during the journey north. However, the material collected by Franklin and his colleague George Back also include items bought as presents or souvenirs. The mitt may be Cree in origin. It was passed down through the family of Franklin's only daughter Isabella and appears to have been worn.
