Shell base

Base of shell on wooden base. Engraved: HMS CARNARVON CASTLE Base of German shell found on Board after action with Raider. The CARNARVON CASTLE was a Union Castle liner converted to an armed merchant cruiser in 1939. She fought the German radier THOR 700 miles west of Montevideo. Over 500 shells were fired at the THOR but she managed to escape -the CARNARVON CASTLE was hit 38 times and suffered 6 dead and 32 wounded.
