Cannonball
Two stone shot presented to the museum by Colonel Codrington in 1951. It is believed that the shot was fired at the British fleet commanded by Sir John Duckworth at the Dardanelles in 1807. Duckworth was sent to Constantinople to deal with the threat of French influence. He failed to reach the city itself as it was too well guarded but he did succeed in destroying a number of Turkish forts and capturing a number of frigates. The British fleet was hit by shot fired from the Turkish forts weighing between 500-850 pounds.
