Component model; Scoring machine

Scale:circa 1:4. A model of a scoring machine made in metal with working components made in brass and steel. The machine is supported on four architectural brass columns within a brass frame surmounted by two acorn shaped finials. Two blocks are shown being shaped. One block is scored along its sides and bottom for the reception of its strop. It is held on a frame moveable about the centre of the spindle carrying it. Alongside the block, on the same frame, is a fixed piece of wood. This regulates the depth of the groove scored along the sides and bottom of the block by keeping the spindle in the moveable frame above, on which the cutters work, at the required distance from the block. The mechanism has a large metal weight which is cylindrical in shape and painted black. The rectangular mahogany baseboard has bevelled edges and a small circular shaped hole at the centre. On baseboard: 'E' and 'No 41 Div B Class 14'.
