Model tent
Model tent belonging to Admiral Sir Francis Leopold McClintock (1819-1907). The type used on the Franklin search expeditions.
McClintock's journal MCL 18 27 May 1857: 'Windsor, Newton & Co 38 Rathbone Place make us a present of 3 tents and a quantity of poles'.The model is made of linen, hand-sewn. It is supported by four wooden poles with metal tips. It has string guy ropes but no pegs and is closed with metal hooks and eyes. On an old label: 'Model of the 8 man tent used in the Arctic Expeditions of Her Majesty's Reign. Scale 3/4 inch. Lent by Admiral Sir Leopold McClintock'.
