Medal commemorating the action off the Goodwin Sands, 1602. Obverse: Plan of Grave and adjourning country with the names of the rivers and places. Above, in clouds the name of Jehovah in Hebrew amid rays of light, whence issues an arm holding a laurel wreath and palm branch, emblems of victory. Legend: 'GRAVIA . CAPTA . TVRMIS . EQVIT . VII . CAESIS' (Grave taken, seven troops of cavalry slain). Reverse: Field divided; a cavalry action near Maestricht and a naval action off the Goodwin Sands. Above (left) in clouds the name of Jehovah in Hebrew, amid rays of light, whence issue two arms holding a sword and birch twigs, symbols of punishment. Legend: 'TRIREM VI DEPRESS. FRACT. FVGATISQ. A. CIC. IC .CII OR. F. P. F. F.' (Six galleys sunk, wrecked and put to flight).
