Medal commemorating the capture of the Spanish silver fleet off Matanzas, 1628. Obverse: A medallion bust of Prince Frederick of Orange, in armour and lace collar (three-quarter right) supported by Mars (left) and Victory (right) holding a wreath over it. Above: 'Aurea condet saecula' (He shall establish the golden age). Exergue: A view of 'SHERTOGHENBOS 1649' (the prince's residence). Reverse: Prudence (left) and Fortitude (right) as supporters, with cherubs, above, holding a wreath over the crowned arms of Holland and medallions of the sums of four victories. Legend: 'AUSPICIIS ADSIT VICTRIX CONCORDIA' (Let concord, bringer of victory, be at the ruler's side). Exergue: 'CVM PREVIL' (by licence). Inscribed on medallions (1) 'GROL 1627'; (2) 'SVLVERVLOOT 1628' (i.e. capture of the silver fleet at Matanzas) (3) 'FERNAMBVCO 1630' (Pernambuco); (4) 'WESEL 1629'. '1631'.
