Counter commemorating the Battle of Albrolhos, 1631. Obverse: Bust of King Philip IV in armour, a collar and mantle (left). Legend: 'PHILIP . IIII . HISP . INDIAR . REX .CATHOLICVS . 00ICCXXXI' (Philip IV, Catholic King of Spain and the Indies). Reverse: Samson rending his lion. Legend: 'DVLCIA . SIC . MERUIT' (Thus he won sweetness) '1631'. This counter records the victory of Admiral Oquendo over the Dutch under Admiral Pater. Here Samson takes the honey of Brazil from the jaws of the Dutch lion.
