Medal commemorating the Battle of the Four Days, 1666 and Admiral Michel Adrianzoon de Ruyter (1607-1676). Obverse: Bust of Admiral de Ruyter in a doublet and cravat with Order of St Michael (nearly front), supported by tritons holding a naval crown over his head, trophies behind. Legend (incuse): 'DE RUYTER DIE DEN BRIT SYN MOET GETEUGELT HEEFT, ALDUS, DOOR MULLERS HANT, INT GOUT EN SILUER LEEFT . AO MDCLXVI DEN XIII IUNY' (De Ruyter, who checked the courage of the English, thus lives in gold and silver by the hand of Müller). Reverse: A naval engagement, starboard quarter view of two vessels in the foreground, a sunken wreck below. Legend (incuse): 'HIER STRYCKT HET BRITSCH GEWELT VOOR' NEDERLANDT DE VLAGH DE ZEE HEEFT NOIT GEWAEGHT VAN ZULK EEN' ZWAEREN SLAGH' (Here the English forces strike their flag to the Dutch.
