Medal commemorating the death of Captain Dirck Gerritsen Witte Paert, 1667. Obverse: Above a cherub with wine glass, below skeletons flanking a cartouche framed with bones inscribed: 'Ter gedachtenis van CAPT. DIRK GERRITSEN WITTE PAERT Inden Heere gerust Anno een duysent ses hondert 67 den 5 April out synde 61 Jaer' (In memory of Captain Dirck Pietersen Wittepaert. Resting in the Lord in the year one thousand six hundred 67 the 5 April. Aged 61 years). Below: 'Gedenckt te sterven' (Thinking of death). Reverse: Port quarter view of a Dutch state's yacht firing a gun, ensign half-mast. Exergue: 'Christus is myn Leven sterven is myn gewin' (Christ is my life. Death is my gain).
