Medal commemorating the Battle of La Hogue, 1692. Obverse: Head of King Louis XIV in a wig (right). Legend: 'LVDOVICVS MAGNVS REX'. Reverse: stern view of 'Le Soleil Royal' blowing up. Legend: 'NVNC PLVRIBVS IMPAR' (Now unequal to many). Inscribed on stern of ship, 'NEC PLURIB . IMP' (Not unequal to many). The change of word is a satire on King Louis's motto. Exergue: 'BRIT[ANNORVM] : BAT[AVORVM] : Q. VIRTVTE MDCXCII" (By the valour of British and Dutch).
