Medal commemorating Pompey the Great (BC106-48). Copy of a Roman denarius. Obverse: Within a pearled border the head of Pompey (right). Legend: 'POMPEIVS . M.' Reverse: Within a pearled border a galley under a single sail, stern hooded, a man standing in the bows, another in the stern and seven rowers; a trident, horizontally placed, below. Inscription above: 'COS . III'. (i.e. Consul for the third time). Below, 'NEP'.
