REX PORTVG . ET . ALGARB' (John V, King of Portugal and the Algarves). Reverse: Ship of war passing between two rocks, flanked by columns (Straits of Gibraltar and the Pillars of Hercules.) Legend: 'QVA . DATA . PORTA . IVVAT' (By the passage which is open to them they set forth to succour.) Exergue: 'FVSIS . FVGATISQVE . TVRCIS . LVSIT[ANA] . CLASSIS SUBSID[IATVR] . AD TAENARVM . P[ORTVM] . 1717' (The Turks having been scattered and put to flight, the Lusitanian fleet stands by the harbour of Taenarum.)
