Medal commemorating the occupation of the Morea and the capture of the Dardanelles, 1687. Obverse: A fortified town besieged. Legend: 'VOTA URBIS ET ORBIS' (The vows of the city and the world). Reverse: Inscription, 'MOREA PLATANI FOLIO SIMILIS . IAM LAURU PALMISQ . ORNAT VENETUM LEONEM : PATRASSO . LEPANTO . VALIDISSIMIS URBIBUS . ET DUOBUS CASTRIS DARDANELLI XXIV . HORARUM SPATIO . QUAE SAECULI GESTA VIDEANTUR A TURCIS RECEPTIS D.14 24 ET 15 25 IUL . M . DC . LXXXVII.' (Morea like the leaf of a plane tree thus decorates the Venetian lion with laurel and palm, the strong cities of Patras and Lepanto having been captured from the Turks in twenty-four hours 14-24 and 15-25 July 1687, may these deeds be famous for ever). Inscription (on edge): 'REGNIS DOMINANTUR IN UNDIS' (They rule kingdoms and seas).
