Medal commemorating the Venetian command of the sea. Obverse: Bust of the Doge Francis Morosini in peaked cap and ermine cape (three-quarter right), a trophy behind. Legend: 'FRANCISCUS MAUROCENUS DUX VENETIARUM . AO . 1688 . 1688 . D . 3 . APRIL NIL DESPERANDUM TEUCRO DUCE.' (Never despair with Teucer as leader). Reverse: Five water nymphs, inscribed, 'MOREA. CANDIA. ATHENAE. NEGROPONT. CYPRUS', making offerings to the Doge, seated, a cornucopia in his left hand; ships and a volcano in the distance. Legend: 'ADRIATICI MARIS DOMINA ARCHIPELAGI REGINA' (Mistress of the Adriatic, queen of the archipelago). Inscription (on edge): 'VIDERUNT INSULAE ET TIMUERUNT EXTREMAE TERRAE OBSTUPUERUNT ET ACCESSERUNT . ESAI . 41 .' (The isles saw it and feared, the ends of the earth were afraid and drew near).
