Inscription (on edge): 'VIDERUNT INSULAE ET TIMUERUNT EXTREMAE TERRAE OBSTUPUERUNT ET ACCESSERUNT . ESAI . 41 .' (The isles saw it and feared, the ends of the earth were afraid and drew near).
