Medal commemorating the action of Captain Salomon Dedel and the Peace of Hubertsburg, 1755. Obverse: A woman seated on bales of merchandise, the lion of Holland crouching at her feet with bundle of arrows, ships in the distance. The frigate has 'DANKS' (Dankbaarheid, Dedels's ship) on stern. Legend: 'CONSTANTER ET LIBERE' (Steadfast and free). Reverse: Mars seated on a drum, sheathing his sword and stamping out the flaming torch of war. Behind, trophies of arms and a shield at his feet; he is replacing a sword in its scabbard. Legend: 'INEDIA FLVCTIBVSQVE FESSVS' ([The God of War] wearied out by want and the force of the sea). This refers to a Dutch convoy searched for contraband by British ships and afterwards released. Exergue: 'IN . A . MDCCLXIII' (In the beginning of the year, 1763).
