Medal commemorating Admiral Willem Crul (1721-1781). Obverse: Bust of Admiral Crul in a short wig and uniform coat over armour (to the right, head three-quarters). Legend: 'WILH CRUL TOPARCHA BURGST . PRAEF . CLASS . HOLL . & W . F .' (Wilhelm Crul, Lord of Burgst, Admiral of Holland and West Friesland). Reverse: A weeping figure of Mercury, a caduceus in his left hand, mourns at a monument (nine sparkling stars surmounting a mortuary urn, which is encircled by a laurel wreath). The urn stands on a plinth with a relief of a naval engagement; a trophy to the left. Legend: 'VI INFERIOR NON VIRTVTE.' (Inferior in power not courage.) Exergue: 'PUGN . OCCUB . IV FEB . MDCCLXXXI.' (Fell fighting, 4 Feb. 1781).
