Medal commemorating the Black Sea freed, 1854. Obverse: A trophy of piled arms, guns and flags in front of a mosque. Legend: 'A LA GLORIE DES ARMÉES ALLIÉES . ALMA 2O SEPT . BALAKLAVA 25 OCT . INKERMANN 5 NOV.' (To the glory of the allied armies. Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann). Reverse: A winged figure seated inscribing a pyramid, a serpent at her feet, a mosque in the distance (left). Legend: 'LA FRANCE ET L'ANGLETERRE UNIÉS POUR LA DÉFENSE DU DROIT.' (France and England united for defending the right). Inscription (on pyramid): 'VICTOIRE NAPOLÉON 1854 LA MERE NOIRE ET LE DANUBE SERONT LIBRES.' (Victory Napoleon 1854. The Black Sea and the Danube will be free.) Exergue: 'DIEU LE VEUT.'
